Affiliate Conformity Assessment

Affiliate countries benefit from participating in conformity assessment activities

Affiliate countries can benefit from the advantages offered by the IEC Conformity assessment systems - IECEE, IECEx, IECQ, and IECRE. The IEC encourages affiliate countries to adopt IEC International Standards and to recognize and implement IEC Conformity assessment certificates and reports at the national level. By doing so, affiliate countries can access international markets, eliminate the import of counterfeit goods and sub-quality products as well as improve their efficiencies when controlling imports.

Through the Affiliate Conformity assessment (ACA) status, affiliate countries engage in conformity assessment in a two-stage process. With ACA prelude, affiliate countries are encouraged to acquire knowledge about the IEC Conformity assessment systems while ACA status encourages affiliate countries to implement the deliverables of the IEC CA Systems.

ACA prelude

By participating in ACA prelude, affiliate countries can increase their knowledge and understanding of IEC Conformity assessment systems. Online courses are available about each of the IEC CA Systems and can be accessed by all affiliate country participants using their log-in details.

Affiliate countries receive permissible support in the implementation of IEC CA System deliverables and can participate in ACA events and tailored webinars with representatives from the IEC CA Systems.

Participants that have successfully passed the tests for the ACA status online course Levels 1 and 2 receive a "Recognition of achievement" certificate for each IEC CA System. Recipients of the certificate have the opportunity to attend relevant IEC CA System meetings as observers.

Affiliate countries with ACA status are invited to participate in ACA events and tailored webinars on topics related to IEC CA Systems.

ACA status is available to affiliate countries that have declared:

  • the national adoption of at least one IEC International Standard that falls under the scope of one IEC CA System, and,
  • a list of accepted Certificates and Reports issued within one or more of the IEC CA Systems on a national level.

An official letter addressed by the IEC General Secretary & CEO is sent to the NEC Secretary or principal contact of the affiliate country to confirm ACA status.

ACA status events

The IEC organises ACA status events on topics relevant to IEC Conformity assessment systems using an approach that combines theory and implementation. These events are organized on a regular basis, most often alongside regional partner events. The IEC Affiliate secretariat welcomes topic suggestions from ACA status countries.

ACA status online learning

The IEC Academy offers online courses to help participants from affiliate countries better understanding IEC Conformity assessment activities and increase their involvement.

Three levels of courses (introductory, intermediate and advanced) are available for each of the four IEC Conformity assessment systems with each course comprised of a number of modules. All courses are available to affiliate countries although participants will need to register on the IEC Academy platform for separate log-in details.

IECEE online course

IECEE (IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components) covers safety and performance for a wide variety of equipment and components used in homes, offices, workshops, healthcare facilities and more.

The online course provides a better understanding of IECEE and its conformity assessment activities. The courses are divided into three levels: introductory, intermediate and advanced.
